Asana is a work management tool designed to track project progress and task assignments. Using keyboard shortcuts allows you to complete most daily actions without switching back and forth to your mouse.

Many Asana shortcuts follow the pattern of the Tab key plus the first letter of an action, making them straightforward to learn and remember.

If you ever forget a shortcut, press Ctrl/Cmd + / to open the in-app cheat sheet. Additionally, if you have the "Hack" enabled in settings, pressing Tab + B triggers celebration animations across your screen.

Inbox Operations

Manage notifications and triage your Asana Inbox.

Asana's Inbox shortcuts are structured around natural hand resting positions so you never have to reach for arrow keys:

  • Right-Hand Triangle (J / K / I): Use your index finger on J (move down) and middle finger on K (move up) to browse notifications, then reach up slightly to I to archive. The U key (mark unread) is also easily reachable with your index finger.
  • Left-Hand Triangle (F / D / E): Alternatively, use your left hand: E to archive, F (home position) to join or leave a task, and D to switch to the Archive tab (plus A with your pinky to view the Activity tab).

This layout allows you to review and organize incoming notifications smoothly without taking your hands off the keyboard.

Additionally, pasting multi-line text from your clipboard into a task list using Ctrl/Cmd + V creates individual tasks for each line.

Since this interaction can be hard to grasp from reading alone, try creating a few dummy tasks to practice and see how the list responds. The more tasks you handle, the more this will boost your day-to-day workflow.
